The Beauty of Crocheting with Thread

When I was first learning how to read crochet patterns as a young girl, I created several snowflakes and Christmas ornaments with cotton crochet thread. It was a great way to learn stitches and how crochet patterns were written. To this day crochet projects made with the thin thread are still some of my favorites!

I love how the delicate nature of the thread really helps each stitch to shine and makes for eye-catching decorations and garments. It does take some getting used to crochet with the thread because it is so thin and requires a very small hook. So I recommend working up thread patterns with larger yarn and hook for practice. You could also use Size 3 thread as you practice since it is slightly thicker than the Size 10 thread but still has a delicate look.

Celtic Floral Snowflake Pattern

The Celtic Floral Snowflake pattern is crocheted with basic stitches such as: chains, slip stitches, single crochets, half double crochets and double crochets.

First you make a crochet cord with white and silver crochet thread. Then using the diagram included in the instructions, you weave the Celtic Knot. After the knot is completed, you crochet 4 rounds of stitches around the knot to create the snowflake shape. The instructions include over 15 color photos to help you be successful with each step of the project.

If you have never made a Celtic Knot before with crocheted cords, no need to worry! I have made a short video tutorial showing you how to weave the knot and all the supplies you need for the project. You can watch the video here to see how easy the knot weaving really is! 🙂
