Easy Crochet Brick Stitch Scarf

Easy Crochet Brick Stitch Scarf made in light purple with a pink flower pin draped on a white mannequin outside in front of a green bush

Easy Crochet Brick Stitch Scarf

The Easy Crochet Brick Stitch Scarf works up quickly using basic stitches and medium weight yarn. This FREE crochet pattern comes with 2 edging options and the instructions to make your own flower pin! I created this design to wear when I performed as Grandma Josephine in a local community theater’s production of the Willy Wonka Musical. I also crocheted this scarf while on stage to create the illusion that I was gradually making scarves for the other grandparents during the show. I picked this stitch pattern because it is so easy to make that I could do it while acting on stage and saying my lines.

Two Edgings and a Flower Pin Included!

Since I made the same scarves for me and the other Grandma in our show, I wanted an easy way to tell the 2 scarves apart especially when getting them ready to wear backstage in the dim lighting. So, I came up with 2 different edgings that I include in the instructions below. One is some fun mini-pom poms and the other is some simple 5-petal flowers. And since these scarves were intended to be more decorative than warm, I only made them about 40″ long and just crossed them once in front. To hold mine in place I created a pretty flower pin that I also include below.

Stitches Used in the Easy Crochet Brick Stitch Scarf Pattern

To make the Easy Crochet Brick Stitch Scarf you need to know basic crochet stitches such as the chain, slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet. To make the pom-pom edging it helps if you’ve crocheted a puff stitch before and the flower pin includes the tall treble crochet stitch. The brick stitch pattern is simple to follow and once you get the hang of it, you will see that you can work it up very quickly because you are working in mostly spaces! This means you can crochet this scarf while watching TV, talking with a friend or out in public with a lot of distractions.

Instructions for the Easy Crochet Brick Stitch Scarf by Jennifer E Ryan:

All special stitches are written in bold and italicized text & defined above

(If you would like to make your scarf wider or use this stitch pattern for a different project, simply chain a multiple of 4 plus 1 and then add one more chain (for your turning chain) – So other options would be: Ch 26, Ch 30, Ch 162 (40″ wide for baby blanket))

Row 1:

Sc in 2nd ch from hk; (ch 3, sk next 3 chs, sc in next ch) across. Turn. (5 ch-3 sps)

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until scarf measures approximately 36″ long (which is about 76 to 80 rows)

**Make sure to end after you completed a Row 2 repeat** (This way you have the 5 ch-3 sps across both short ends of the scarf to work the edging into)
