Celtic Turtle Crochet Pattern
The Crochet Turtle Crochet Pattern is an easy motif that looks great appliqued or glued onto a crocheted project or a store-bought item. I recently visited Maui, Hawaii and enjoyed seeing sea turtles in the ocean right behind our condo every day! We even went snorkeling in this area and got to see them swimming by – so graceful and peaceful. (Click here to watch a short video of them!) Because we saw so many turtles, I thought it would be fun to create a simple Celtic Turtle Motif that I could add to a crossbody bag and use while I was in Hawaii. One day it was very stormy so I stayed indoors and created this project – I LOVE how it turned out!

Quick & Easy Crochet Motif
This Celtic Turtle Crochet Pattern is a very quick and easy motif that you can add to a variety of projects. I love to add crocheted items to store-bought bags and garments. Doing this makes an ordinary bag extra-ordinary and results in an eye-catching accessory that you’ll love to use or gift to a friend or family member. I decided to add my crochet turtle motif to a crossbody bag since I use those all the time when traveling. Stitches Used in the Celtic Turtle Crochet Pattern:
This Celtic Turtle Crochet Pattern uses only basic stiches, such as: chain, slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet – that’s it! We use 2 simple techniques when working into the chain and adding the edging that help the cords to look their best. If these techniques are new to you, no need to stress – I’ve included links to some short video tutorials that show you how to do them. Plus, I provide a color-coded diagram (for both Right and Left Handers) that uses colors and numbers to help you be successful in weaving the Celtic Knot Turtle.

Skill Level: Easy
(Working with Size 3 thread can be a little challenging, so if this is your first time, I recommend practicing with Medium weight (Size 4) yarn first – all the stitches are easy)

Yarn: Size 3 cotton crochet thread in 2 colors
(I used Aunt Lydia’s Fashion 3 in Sage and Lime)
Here are some good options for Size 3 thread:
Hook: 2.75 mm (C)
Cork board (at least 8” square)
(Foam core poster board, blocking boards or Styrofoam square would also work well)
Optional: Waterproof & Washable Fabric Glue or hot glue and glue sticks
Faceted flatback gems and gem glue
