Crochet Seatbelt Cover

The Celtic Crochet Seatbelt Cover is a unique project that uses simple crochet stitches and a small amount of Size 3 (or DK weight) cotton yarn. This project is very similar to the Carol’s Celtic Vase, Bookmark and Lantern pattern that can be found here. While I was making the Celtic Knot for the vase, I realized that the long rectangular shape of this knot would work well for a seatbelt sleeve. I love how it turned out and am excited to share it with you!

What is a Seatbelt Cover?

We have been using seatbelt covers on our seatbelts for years! I find that the hard and stiff edge of a seatbelt can be uncomfortable on your neck while driving especially on long road trips. By adding a soft cushion or sleeve that you can move to the area you need the seatbelt now becomes much more comfortable. Plus, it makes for a pretty decoration on an otherwise blah-looking car part. 😉 You can purchase all kinds of seatbelt sleeves on-line but I thought having a Celtic Knot one would be perfect for our car!

Stitches Used in this Crochet Seatbelt Cover

Most of the stitches used in this Crochet Seatbelt Cover are basic stitches. You’ll need to know the chain, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. There are a few ‘shaping’ stitch combinations that help create the points, curves and outlines of the Celtic Knot which are very easy to do. I also include several links to short video tutorials to help you with these stitches. I would say that the crochet level is “Easy” and the Celtic Knot weaving level is “Intermediate”.

The large-print 14-page pattern includes several color photos along with a detailed Celtic Knot diagram to help you be successful. There is also a separate file download (included with the pattern purchase) of a special Celtic Knot diagram for Left-Handers. (Since Left-Handers crochet in the opposite direction of Right-Handers, a special diagram is essential) All of the stitches are explained in detail with several video tutorial links in case you need a short demo for those.

Supplies for the Celtic Seatbelt Sleeve:

All of the supplies are listed in the pattern along with purchase links so you can find just what you need to complete these projects. You’ll need 3 skeins of Size 3 cotton yarn and a 3.75mm crochet hook. I also recommend 10 stitch markers and a yarn needle with a bent end. You’ll need a corkboard and straight sewing pins to help you weave the knot as well. I used Lion Brand’s 24/7 cotton yarn and I LOVE how it looks in this project. It has great stitch definition and such pretty colors. I’m loving these oranges and green together. 🙂
