Celtic Crochet Vase

The Celtic Crochet Vase is a very unique Celtic project that uses simple crochet stitches and a small amount of Size 3 cotton crochet thread. This crochet project is also an upcycle project because it uses a recycled glass bottle! I love how it turned out and I am excited to share it with you today. 🙂

How I Came Up with this Design

I have been planning to make something like this Celtic Crochet Vase for several years ever since I watched my mom, a master gardener, save her Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino glass bottles and use them as small vases for her garden’s cut flowers. They are the perfect size for a small vase and look so cute on a windowsill or kitchen counter. She removed the labels but I thought it would be even better to add some kind of Celtic Knot motif! Since my mom is the inspiration for this design I decided to call it: “Carol’s Celtic Vase“. In the photo above you can see her with some of her beautiful flowers. 🙂

My mom loves her garden and always has several beautiful flowers blooming all season long! She was especially proud of the tall red hollyhocks you see in the photo above (on the right) – they were glorious in person. She has taught me much about flowers and gardening. I love to watch her walk around her garden and show off all her hard work when we visit. It truly is therapeutic for her and a blessing for all who stop by.

(If you don’t have a glass bottle like mine, the pattern is easy to adjust to any size bottle or jar)

3 Crochet Patterns in 1!

As I was making one of these Celtic Crochet Vases for her and myself I realized that the shape of the Celtic Knot center was just right for turning into other projects! So, I decided to publish this pattern to include 3 projects – the Celtic Vase, Celtic Bookmark and Celtic Lantern. 😊

Celtic Bookmark and Celtic Lantern:

The Celtic Bookmark is quickly made with a few edging rounds after creating the Celtic Knot motif. The Celtic Lantern project is made very much like the vase but has just a few edging differences. I love how the candlelight shows through the Celtic Knot and the crochet stitches – so pretty!

Celtic Crochet Vase Instructions:

The large-print 21-page pattern includes several color photos along with a detailed Celtic Knot diagram to help you be successful. There is also a separate file download (included with the pattern purchase) of a special Celtic Knot diagram for Left-Handers. (Since Left-Handers crochet in the opposite direction of Right-Handers, a special diagram is essential) All of the stitches are explained in detail with several video tutorial links in case you need a short demo for those.

Supplies needed to make the 3 projects - vase, bookmark and lantern

Supplies for the Celtic Crochet Vase:

All of the supplies are listed in the pattern along with purchase links so you can find just what you need to complete these projects. You’ll need 3 skeins of Size 3 cotton crochet thread and a 2.75mm crochet hook. I also recommend 10 stitch markers and a variety of yarn needles. You’ll need a corkboard and straight sewing pins to help you weave the knot as well.

  4. I know I will make this bookmark for my fiend of thirty some years. She is a red-head of Irish heritage. I would like to make the lantern for her, but I always seem to be in a time crunch.
    The roses in the vase are so beautiful. Just as beautiful as those in my wedding bouquet

  20. This is a beautiful design. I think it would be lovely enlarged and done in worsted weight for a blanket in off white and red and green for Christmas. But the designs that it is in are wonderful already and I would like to start with the vase. Thank you for designing this pattern.

  22. I love all three uses for this pattern. So very lovely and one that I feel will be used over and over. The bookmark is my favorite though because so many of my friends are bibliophiles and making it in their favorite colors would be a great way to personalize them.
