Crochet Daisy Phone Strap
This Crochet Daisy Phone Strap is both practical and beautiful! This project is made with Size 3 cotton yarn and some glow-in-the-dark yarn. It can easily be made in varying lengths. Each square motif is just 3 rounds of stitches – perfect for an on-the-go project. Plus, once it’s finished, you’ll have your hands free to do more crocheting without needing to carry your phone! Special Phone Tether Tab!
To be able to use this Crochet Daisy Phone Strap with your mobile device, you’ll need to get an inexpensive “phone tether tab.” These are great little gadgets! They work very easily with your phone’s regular case. I’ve found it works best with phone covers that totally encase your phone. Click here to purchase the tether unit. Simply remove your phone cover and slip this tether into the bottom half so the metal ring sticks out of the charging port area. Snap the covers back on and you’re good to go – ready to clip on this strap! Of course, you can use this strap for other projects – purse, tote bag, camera strap, beach bag, etc.

I have loved things that glow in the dark since I was a young girl so I thought it would be fun to add that to this project. You can use regular white yarn (or any color for that matter) for your flower petals but since I had a few of the LionBrand DIY Glo Yarn balls in my stash, I decided to go for it with this project! Stitches Used in the Crochet Daisy Phone Strap
To make the Crochet Daisy Phone Strap you will need to know how to do these stitches: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. There is a special cluster stitch used for all of the petals but it is easy to do. If you need help with any of the stitches, please watch the step-by-step video tutorial here. (You’ll also find a list of time stamps in the video description so you can skip ahead easily to where you need the help) I also show you how to finish each round without using a slip stitch. This way you have a seamless join that makes your squares look their best. 🙂 I show you how to do these techniques in the video tutorial as well!

Skill Level: Confident Beginner
Measurements:
Each motif is approx. 2 1/4″ x 2 1/4″
Total strap length is approx. 51 1/2″
(But you can adjust this length by adding or removing squares – I recommend holding a tape measure around your body to see if the length listed above will work for you or if you need to add/subtract some inches)
Measurement Math:
To find out how many squares are needed to get the approximate length you want, use this formula:
Total length want subtract 2 inches = “A“
“A” divided by 2.25 = Number of squares you will need
Keep in mind that the end tabs add about 1 inch and the swivel clasp and phone tether tab add about another 1 inch. (This is why we subtract 2 inches from the total length wanted) Best thing to do is try on the strap before adding the tabs and clasp!

Adjustable Ring = Wrap yarn around hand to create a loop; pull working end of yarn through loop with hook;

Invisible Join = There are several ways to join the end of the round to the beginning of the round – watch the video tutorial to see how I like to do each one – they are all different but help the flower design to look its best 😉
Sc (single crochet) = Insert hook into stitch, YO, draw up a loop; YO, pull through 2 loops on hook
Sl st (slip stitch) = Insert hook into stitch, YO, pull through stitch and loop on hook
Dc (double crochet) = YO, insert hook into stitch, YO, draw up a loop, (YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) twice
Join with 3-dc CL (join with 3-dc cluster) = With slip knot on hook, (YO, insert hook into stitch, YO, draw up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) 3 times; YO, pull through all 4 loops on hook
3-dc CL (3-dc cluster) = (YO, insert hook into stitch, YO, draw up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) 3 times; YO, pull through all 4 loops on hook
Join with hdc (join with half double crochet) = With slip knot on hook, YO, insert hook into stitch; YO, draw up a loop, YO, pull through all 3 loops on hook
Join with sc (join with single crochet) = With slip knot on hook, insert hook into stitch; YO, draw up a loop; YO, pull through 2 loops on hook

Instructions for the Crochet Daisy Phone Strap by Jennifer E Ryan:

Daisy Square Motif – Make 21:
(or amount needed for length desired)
I found it worked up quicker to make all of the centers of the daisy first and then work Round 2 into each of them
Round 1:
With yellow make 8 sc in adjustable ring – invisible join. Fasten off.
(Alternative: With yellow ch 2, work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hk – invisible join. Fasten off.)
Round 2:
With white (glo-yarn) join with 3-dc Cluster; (ch 4, 3-dc cluster, ch 2, 3-dc cluster) 3 times; ch 4, 3-dc cluster, ch 2; invisible join to top of 1st cluster. Fasten off.
Round 3:
With green join with hdc in any ch-4 sp; 4 hdc in same sp; (3 hdc in next ch-sp, 5 hdc in next ch-sp) around; invisible join to 1st hdc. Fasten off.
Weave in ends
Optional: Wet block squares
Soak all squares in bowl of cool water
Press out excess water in clean towel
Lay new dry towel on blocking board and pin squares on top of towel making sure to place one pin in 3rd hdc of each corner space
Let dry overnight
Finishing & Assembly:
Joining Squares:
With long length of green yarn and yarn needle & with Wrong Sides facing, whipstitch squares together making sure to pass needle through back loop and back bar of each hdc along joining side; There should be 9 sts along each joining side;
Once join 2 squares, weave thread on Wrong Side of one square along Round 3 toward top corner;
Repeat joining with another square

Strap Ending:
On last 2 squares of strap with green yarn & with Wrong Side facing:
Row 1:
Working in the back bar and back loop of each stitch join with sc in 3rd hdc of 5 hdc at corner; sc in next st and in each st across. Turn. (9 total sc)
Row 2:
Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each st across up to last 2 sts; sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sc)
Row 3:
Repeat Row 2 (5 sc)
Fasten off.
*For second side of length, do not fasten off*
With Wrong Sides facing each other (and Right Side facing up) hold end of length together while placing ring of swivel hook between squares of crochet; *insert hk into both loops of both layers and passing under D-ring of clasp; YO, draw up lp passing under D-ring; insert hk into center of D-ring, YO, pull through both lps on hk;* Repeat * to * across in each st. Do not fasten off.
(Don’t worry if this seems confusing – it’s actually pretty easy to do and I show you how here in the video tutorial 🙂)
Edging:
Now working along sides of motifs and in the back loop only, sl st in each st except at spot where motifs meet; Here you will see a slight dip in the line of the stitches; Place a sc in this “dip” – this will keep the sides of the strap nice and even; Continue edging along this side until get back to D-ring; sl st in D-ring. Fasten off with long yarn tail.
Join with sl st on other side of D-ring and repeat same edging along other side of strap.
Use long yarn tails to sew sides of end tab together and across side of last squares. Weave in ends.
