Celtic Maple Leaf Mandala
The Celtic Maple Leaf Mandala project is an eye-catching wall hanging that is perfect for fall! I decided to make this project after I had so much fun making the Celtic Butterfly Mandala this summer. (You can see that project info here). A couple of years ago I published the Celtic Leaf Motif pattern (that you can see here) and thought it would make a pretty fall decoration as a mandala on a ring with ribbons and beads similar to how I took the Celtic Butterfly motifs and turned them into a mandala. 🙂

Crochet Maple Leaf Motif
The Celtic Crochet Maple Leaf motifs are very easy to make. The instructions include 3 sizes of diagrams for both Right and Left Handers to help you weave the knots. You can use Size 3/DK weight yarn or Size 3 cotton thread or Size 10 thread to make the motifs. The leaves are made up of the well-known Trinity knots with simple border cords woven into them.
Stitches Used in the Celtic Maple Leaf Mandala
To make the Celtic Maple Leaf Mandala motifs you only need to know basic crochet stitches such as: chain, slip stitch, single crochet and half double crochet. You will also need to know how to crochet in the back bar (or back bump) of the chain and how to work in the back loop only – these are easy techniques but in case you need help, you can watch some short video tutorials that are linked to in the pattern.

(Most of the stitches are basic stitches but working with the Size 3 thread can be challenging and putting everything together requires some crafting skills (adding beads, attaching ribbons, using the hot glue gun, etc.)

Yarn: Size 3 (DK weight) cotton yarn, Size 3 cotton thread or Size 3 metallic yarn
1 ball/skein of each color (The exact yarns I used are listed in the pattern with purchase links)
(I tried to pick 2 colors that coordinated and/or contrasted well with each other)
Hook: 2.75mm (C) crochet hook and 3.75mm (F) hook
Other Supplies:
Cork board (at least 12” square)
(Foam core poster board, blocking boards or Styrofoam square would also work well)
Printout of Celtic Knot diagram

Plastic wrap
Rust-proof straight pins (10-15)
10” bamboo ring (or metal ring)
Various beads
Beading needle (Dental floss threaders work great with beads)
