Perfect Gift for Book Lovers
I love to read and when summer comes around, I enjoy it even more! I have a great memories of being on summer vacation from school and reading book after book while sunbathing at the beach. Do you like to read? Do you know someone who loves to read? This Crochet Mini Book Pattern makes for a perfect gift for Book Lovers. They can use it to hold their keys or they can attach it to their tote bag of books! I love the little eyes and mouth that give this mini-book a personality.
Stitches Used in the Crochet Mini Book Pattern for Beginners
This project works up very quickly because it only uses chain, single crochet and slip stitches. And since these are easy stitches, this pattern is great for beginners! To assemble the book and add the eyes, I used glue but you can stitch them instead if you want.

Size 3 cotton yarn (cover of book)
(I used Omega’s Sinfonia and Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton)
Size 4 (medium weight) white yarn (pages of book)
(I used Red Heart Super Saver in White)
Small amount of Size 3 black cotton crochet thread
Embroidery needle (with large eye)
Special Stitches and Abbreviations:
Back bar of chain = = When looking at the right side of a chain, you see many “V’s” and the chain looks like a braid. Turn the chain over and you see a series of bumps – it is in these bumps that you will work across the chain to produce a cord with even edges along both sides

Sc (single crochet) = Insert hook into stitch, YO, draw up a loop; YO, pull through 2 loops on hook
Sl st (slip stitch) = Insert hook into stitch, YO, pull through stitch and loop on hook
YO (yarn over)
Hk (hook)
Lp (loop)
Ch (chain)
Sk (skip)
St (stitch)
Sp (space)

Notes:
First 2 rectangles are crocheted
Then eyes and a mouth are added to the larger rectangle
Then they are glued together to form the book shape & the keyring and clasp are attached
Instructions for the Crochet Mini-Book Pattern for Beginners by Jennifer E Ryan:
Special stitches are written in bold and italicized text and defined above
Book Cover:
With 3.75mm hook and cotton yarn, ch 15
Row 1:
Working in the back bar of the chain, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in each st across. Turn. (14 sc)
Row 2:
Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn.
Rows 3-9:
Repeat Row 2
Do not fasten off.
Edging:
Work sc around all sides of rectangle working 2 sc in each corner; join to 1st sc with invisible join. Fasten off.
Pages:
With 5.5mm hook and acrylic (white) yarn, ch 7
Row 1:
Working in the back bar of the chain, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in each ch across. Turn. (6 sc)
Row 2:
Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn.
Rows 3-5:
Repeat Row 2
Do not fasten off.
Edging:
Work sl st around 3 sides of rectangle (next short side, next long side, next short side). Fasten off.
(Top of Row 5 is page edge that is seen between ends of Book Cover)
Finishing & Assembly:

Using photo as a guide, sew on mouth with needle and black thread
Fold Book Cover piece in half
Hot glue page piece inside book cover piece making sure page piece is fully inside cover
With E6000 glue on eyes
Slide swivel clasp onto keyring
Open keyring and slide over entire sc at binding of book to attach

Absolutely adorable! I can’t wait to make these for my daughters who love to read. These would also be cute to hang on the Christmas tree. Instead of the face you could embroider a cross or star to make it more Christmas like.
