Easy Crochet Scrunchie

Easy Crochet Scrunchie

This week’s FREE pattern is a Velvet Scarf Scrunchie! It works up super fast – I was able to make mine in less than a half an hour and it makes for a great gift.

I have A LOT of velvet yarn from various manufacturers and thought it would be fun to use it again for this project because it gives great volume and looks so luxurious.

But if you don’t have velvet yarn (or would prefer to use something else from your stash), you can make these scrunchies with medium weight acrylic yarn or even DK weight. A yarn made of some synthetic fibers (such as: polyester or rayon) would look good because it would have better drape.

When I was in high school scrunchies were very popular and it’s fun to see them back in style again. I love the scrunchies with the bow-like “tails” that hang down (similar to the 1950’s ponytail style with a chiffon scarf) so I created these to include that fun detail.

Skill Level: Easy

Measurements:

“Tail” (when worn) hangs down approximately 7-8″

Supplies:

Velvet yarn (1 skein will make several scrunchies)

(For the scrunchies shown in the photo here I used Bernat’s Baby Crushed Velvet in “Rose Petals” and Bernat’s Crushed Velvet in “Burgundy”)

K/6.5mm hook

Hair elastic

Yarn needle

Each ch-3 at the beginning of each row counts as a dc
