Crochet baskets are so fun to make especially with the Bernat Home Dec yarn. This yarn is soft and smooth but is also like a thin rope so it is perfect for baskets. I decided to use one of my favorite stitches for this project and I love how this stitch looks in this yarn.
This pattern includes 3 sizes of the baskets but I also give you a simple formula for making bigger baskets at the end of the pattern.

These are “Easy” baskets because you only need to know how to do these stitches: chain, double crochet, single crochet and slip stitch. The great texture is created on the back side of the ‘special stitch’ which is a simple variation of the slip stitch.

(Any color works! For mine I used Woodberry (large), Aqua (medium) and Pebble Beach Variagated (small))
L/8mm crochet hook
Yarn needle
Optional: Something to reinforce the sides (see the options below inside the pattern) – it’s another chance to upcycle things from around the house – yay!

**UPDATE: Now there is a step-by-step video tutorial for this project – perfect help if you have any questions about the instructions below 🙂 **
Instructions:
Large Basket:
Round 1: Work (ch 3, 11 dc) in an adjustable ring.
join with sl st to top of starting ch-3
OR
(Alternative Round 1: Ch 4, 11 dc in 4th ch from hk, join with sl st to top of starting ch-4)
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st; 2 dc in each st around; join with sl st to top of starting ch-3. (24 dc)
Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st; dc in next st; (2 dc in next st, dc in next st) around. (36 dc)
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in same st; dc in each of next 2 sts; (2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 2 sts) around. (48 dc)

Round 5: Now turn project so Wrong Side facing you and working in back loops only, ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st to 1st sc; Now turn project so Right Side (inside of basket) is facing you, ch 1. (48 sc)
Round 6: YO sl st in each st around; join with sl st to 1st st; ch 1
Rounds 7-14: Repeat Round 6. Fasten off. (Unless want to do Optional Side Reinforcing – do not fasten off and see below)
Medium Basket:
Work as for Large Basket for Rounds 1-3
Round 4: Repeat Round 5 (of Large Basket)
Round 5: Repeat Round 6 (of Large Basket)
Rounds 6-10: Repeat Round 5
Small Basket:
Work as for Large basket for Rounds 1-2
Round 3: Repeat Round 5 (of Large Basket)
Round 4: Repeat Round 6 (of Large Basket)
Rounds 5-8: Repeat Round 4

Optional Side Reinforcing:
Round 1: Ch 1, turn so Right Side of basket facing you and working in back loops only, sc in each st around;
Round 2: Now working in both loops, sc in each st around
Round 3+: Repeat Round 2 until piece measures same height as sides of basket
Insert plastic canvas, recycled plastic or recycled plastic packaging (cut to fit) along inside of basket and fold down single crochet rounds just completed
Optional: With yarn needle and matching yarn, secure last round to bottom of basket
Increasing Formula:
To make your basket bigger than my “large basket” simply keep adding rounds of increasing after Round 4 – just add one to the numbers in red (below) for each additional round
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in same st; dc in each of next 2 sts; (2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 2 sts) around. (48 dc)
For example, Round 5: Ch 3, dc in same st; dc in each of next 3 sts; (2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 3 sts) around. (60 dc)
Once you have the size (diameter) you like, then ‘jump’ back into the pattern at Round 5 and follow as usual.

And that’s it – your Easy Textured Baskets are complete! I think they would make a great gift filled with goodies or a pretty addition to your at-home work station – who says organization can’t be pretty and functional? 🙂
I hope you enjoyed making this project – please send me a photo – I love to see what you make!
