Crochet Heart Projects
These Crochet Heart Projects span over 10+ years of designing and include a wide variety of cute and creative crochet patterns that are fun to make for Valentine’s Day or any time of the year! The popular and famous heart shape is one of my favorite objects to design and crochet. There are many different ways to create a heart using crochet stitches – I love the endless possibilities and that you can add a heart to just about anything! As I looked over my design portfolio I realized that I have created over 25 unique crochet heart patterns and thought it would be good to share them all in one place since Valentine’s Day is coming up soon.

A Variety of Creative Crochet Heart Projects
In this list of Crochet Heart Projects you will find all kinds of items to create! There are scarves, jewelry, kitchen decor, bookmarks, pillows, a blanket, some bags, other home decor accessories and even a few stuffies. 🙂 As I mentioned before, you can add a heart-shape to almost any project – Hearts work as great embellishments or that simple little piece that increases the cuteness by tenfold. They are easy to make whether you create the heart in rounds or back and forth in rows. I think you’ll enjoy looking over this list and finding something to make for the people you love.
Stitches Used in these Crochet Heart Projects
Most of these crochet patterns use the basic stitches: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet so many of these patterns are for an Easy skill level. Yay! There are a few that are beyond “Easy” and I indicate that in their description. Several of these patterns use Size 10 or Size 3 cotton crochet thread which is more of an Intermediate skill level not because of the stitches but because the thread is so thin and the crochet hooks you use are very small. Using thread produces a lovely and delicate lacy heart but you can make many of these hearts with thicker yarn and a larger hook if you’d like. You’ll also find that many of these projects come with a step-by-step video tutorial to help you be successful as well. Ladybugs have always been a special creature in our family and I thought it would be cute to turn her spots into heart-shapes. This little stuffy can lay down as you see in this photo or stand up showing off her lilac belly – she has a weighted bottom to help her stand nicely. Plus, all parts are sewn on so nothing dangerous for little ones.

The Celtic Knot Heart is one of my most popular patterns and comes with a printable diagram and a step-by-step video tutorial! It can be made into a keychain or zipper pull or can simple be a decoration or Christmas ornament. I think it would look pretty added to a homemade Valentine’s Day card, too. 🙂

The Bedside Pocket is practical and pretty! The base piece is one big rectangle that folds over to create the pockets. It is crocheted with a simple textured stitch and then the heart and star are appliqued on top. I love how the heart and star are made in the granny square-style – you could add 2 hearts if you want!

Crochet Heart Project #4:
Celtic Motherhood Necklace – Click here to get more info about this pattern!
This beautiful necklace features 2 intertwining hearts to symbolize the love between a mother and her child. The necklace is made with only basic crochet stitches and a small amount of embroidery thread. This photo shows the hearts made in shades of red but you could experiment with a variety of color combinations for a different look.

The Little Lacy Heart works up fast – I was able to make mine in less than 5 minutes! It can be used in so many ways. I share 5 different project ideas in the link above where you can find the pattern and a link to a video tutorial. If you’ve never worked with the thin cotton crochet thread before, then you can crochet this heart with any yarn and a larger hook to create a bigger size so it’s easier to see your stitches! This is one of my favorite Crochet Heart Projects. 🙂

Mr. Hedgehug is a cute little hedgehog holding a big pink heart. All the stitches in this pattern are basic crochet stitches including a fun textured stitch that only uses chain and slip stitches! All parts are sewn on so nothing dangerous for little ones. 🙂

The Velvet Celtic Heart Scarf uses the luxurious velvet yarn and a super easy one-row repeat textured stitch! Then the Celtic Knot Heart motifs are added to the ends for a unique embellishment. This scarf feels great around your neck and is very warm!

The Sweetheart Hangers are quick and fun to make with simple stitches and colorful medium weight yarn. I bought some hanger bases on-line that had a little padding on them and found they were a cinch to cover with crochet! The hearts I stuffed with some polyfil stuffing to really help them stand out.

Since my Celtic Knot Blanket Squares have been very popular I thought it would be good to make a Celtic Heart Square that can be made into a wide variety of projects – blankets, afghans, bags, pillows. The edging around the heart is very lacy so I recommend adding a lining to it. All stitches used are basic stitches and I provide a FREE Celtic Heart diagram to help you weave the knot.

The Celtic Heart Wristlet is a quick project made with Size 3 cotton crochet thread but you could make this with thicker yarn and have a larger wristlet to fit more stuff! 😉 The pink Celtic Heart is easy to crochet and weave and really looks great up against the light blue yarn.

The Love to Read Bookmark is one of my favorite designs that I created almost 10 years ago for Crochet World. I love how the vibrant red Size 10 cotton crochet thread looks up against the white pages of a book. This project makes a heart-shape by first crocheting a square and then adding the 2 humps with very tall lacy stitches. I would consider this an Intermediate pattern – but remember, you can always practice it with thicker yarn and a larger hook to get the hang of it before switching to the thread! 🙂

The Heart Hot Pad is quick and easy to make with basic stitches and a small amount of cotton yarn. This little heart is made with tall stitches and starts with a small square shape. I picked some muted colors of cotton yarn from my stash for the circle base but you could choose any color combination you like!

I love the simplicity of the Easy Celtic Knot Heart Necklace. I was able to quickly make several in a variety of colors and give them as gifts. This project is made with Size 3 cotton crochet thread (which is a little thicker than the Size 10 thread so it is a good first-time thread project) and some fabric stiffener. I use fabric stiffener in many of my crochet projects and even have a video tutorial to share some tips on how I like to do it. (You can find that tutorial here)

Not only is this little bear cute but he’s also very helpful to keep your headphone cords organized! The simple heart on the front has a snap on it to allow you to quickly wrap the cord around the bear’s body and then close the snap to keep the cord in place. You could add a simple clip to the top of the bear so it can hang on a backpack and be ready to use all day!

In this quick project I combine my love of hearts and flowers into one easy crochet motif! Plus, there is a step-by-step video tutorial for this project to help you along the way. The key to making this Easy Heart Flower is by working various crochet stitches of different heights in a special order.

The Celtic Heart Garland combines 2 free patterns that are available on this blog – The Celtic Knot Heart and the Heartfelt Prayer Square. I love to crochet garlands and hang them up throughout the year. This one looks great on a mantel or wall and is easy to put together. You do need to sew the Celtic Hearts thoroughly so that they hang nicely or you can add some felt to the back by sewing or hot gluing!

I had fun designing the Love You Teddy several years ago. I intentionally wanted to create some features that were in the Granny Square-style – the center square and the ends of the arms and legs. The stitches used are mostly single crochet and double crochet.
