Patriotic Crochet Coasters
These Patriotic Crochet Coasters are the perfect addition to your next Memorial Day or July 4th barbecue – they make a great decoration and help soak up the condensation from a cold drink on a hot day! My birthday is around July 4th and I have always loved the colors red, white and blue π β I love how they look so bright and festive. Plus, they remind me to be thankful for our country and for those who serve every day. Have you ever crocheted in the patriotic colors? I highly recommend it! I loved working with the cotton yarn I found at Hobby Lobby and enjoyed changing the placement for each color. Which version do you like the best?

Stitches You’ll Need to Know
This patriotic crochet pattern uses mostly basic stitches and has a similar look to a granny-square with just 5 rounds! You’ll need to know the chain, double crochet, single crochet and half double crochet. The fun eye-catching round is the one with several puff stitches in them – these are easy to make and add the perfect texture and thickness to help protect your table. Plus, there are some cluster stitches included as well.

Step-by-Step Video Tutorial
If you are not sure how to do the above mentioned stitches, have no fear! There is a complete step-by-step video tutorial here (or scroll down to see it) in which I show you how to do each round, how to make the puff stitch and how to even create a smaller and quicker version of this Patriotic Crochet Coaster pattern. I think the smaller stars would look great strung on a garland or appliqued onto a summer top.

Your Patriotic Crochet Coaster is Complete!
Now your Patriotic Crochet Coaster is complete and ready to use at your next patriotic barbecue! π
I can’t decide which color order I like best. Another fun patriotic project that you can make with these stars is a “star wand” – just stiffen one star and secure it to a 12″ wooden dowel with some pretty red, white, blue and silver ribbon hanging down. (Click here to watch a video tutorial on how to stiffen your crochet projects) Little girls love wands like this and would have fun waving it during a Memorial or July 4th Parade! If you have any other ideas for these stars, please add it to the comments below so we can all be inspired.
