Crochet Bookmark Pattern

Green and blue crochet bookmark on a book with notepad, pen and decorative rose to introduce the crochet bookmark pattern

Crochet Bookmark Pattern

Today I have a FREE crochet bookmark pattern for you!

I love to read and often will make notes in the books I’m reading which means having a pen handy is very helpful. That’s where this crochet bookmark pattern comes in!

It holds a pen or pencil in its cute little pocket and also keeps your place in a book.  This would also be a great addition to a backpack to help a student you know be ready to take notes and learn!

Plus, I’ve created this project to be adjustable so it can work for a variety of book sizes using very basic craft supplies.

Let’s get started on making the Crochet Pocket Bookmark!

Skill Level: Easy

Supplies for the crochet bookmark pattern - blue and green yarn, crochet hook, buttons, needle and elastic

Supplies:

Size 3 yarn (or DK weight)  – 2 colors – 1 skein of each color is more than enough for one bookmark

(I used Sinfonia by Omega in a variety of colors – click here to purchase)

3.75mm (F) Clover crochet hook

Jumbo tapestry needle by Clover

5” of elastic (I used a matching hair elastic)

3 buttons (16mm)

Optional: Sew-on jewelry charm

Finished Measurements of the Crochet Bookmark:

Main pocket section = 7 ¼” long x 2 1/4” wide

Each strap is about 5 ½” long before sewing to pocket section

Abbreviations:

YO (yarn over)

Hk (hook)

Lp (loop)

Ch (chain)

St (stitch)

Sp (space)

Sc (single crochet)

Sl st (slip stitch)

Special Stitches:

Back Bar of the Chain = When looking at the right side of a chain, you see many “V’s” and the chain looks like a braid. Turn the chain over and you see a series of bumps – it is in these bumps that you will work across the chain to produce a cord with even edges along both sides

Back Loop Only = Insert hook into back loop of each stitch

Sc join (single crochet join) = With slip knot on hk, insert hk into st; YO, draw up a lp; YO, pull through both lps on hk

Notes:

Project is worked in the round for the pocket and then worked in rows for the top of the pocket section

Then the straps, elastic and buttons are sewn on
