Crochet Earrings – Quick & Elegant
If you have visited this blog before, you know that I love to crochet and design jewelry. These Quick & Elegant Crochet Earrings are now some of my favorites to make!
These are truly quick because they are crocheted with just 2 rounds! To make these crochet earrings you need to know how to do a slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet – all basic crochet stitches.

Some basics about these crochet earrings
The Quick & Elegant Crochet Earrings use a small amount of Size 10 cotton crochet thread and a small amount of jewelry supplies.
Plus, they are super easy to make in a wide variety of colors and styles so that each one you crochet is different and unique – perfect for gifts this season!
I’ll show you all the specific supplies you need for these crochet earrings and explain how to adjust the pattern if some of your supplies are a different size so you can have great-looking projects in no time. And if you’ve never worked with thread before, no worries – you can always practice the pattern with larger yarn and hook to get the hang of it!

Tips about beads: A variety of bead sizes (2-3) works best – look over the photos of my 4 different earrings and see how I used the different beads together
**If your earring hoop is a different size than mine, it is easy to adjust the pattern and stitch numbers to work for your hoop – see explanation below**

Abbreviations:
YO (yarn over)
Hk (hook)
Lp (loop)
Ch (chain)
St (stitch)
Sp (space)
Sc (single crochet)
Sl st (slip stitch)
Hdc (half double crochet)
Dc (double crochet)
Special Stitches/Techniques:
Sc around earring hoop: Insert hk into center of hoop; YO behind wire of hoop; draw up a lp in front of wire and raise hk above wire – now 2 lps on hk; YO behind wire of hoop, pull through both lps on hk
Adjusting the pattern to fit your hoop: Every small scallop uses 5 stitches so make sure that you have the same number of stitches on either side of your hoop – this number must be a multiple of 5; Then make sure you have one more set of 5 stitches at the center bottom of the hoop for the large scallop
(For example, you could work 55 sc around your hoop – this would give you 5 small scallops on each side and 1 large scallop at the bottom center)
Add 10 single crochets for Round 1 to add one small scallop on each side of the hoop

Update! Now there is a step-by-step video tutorial for this project!
Instructions for the Crochet Earrings – Quick & Elegant:
All Special Stitches are written in bold and italicized text and defined above
Crochet Stitches:

Round 1: Starting with slip knot on hk, work 45 sc around earring hoop. Fasten off.

Round 2: With Right Side facing join with sl st to 1st sc of Round 1; sk next st, 3 hdc in next st, sk next st, sl st in next st (1st small scallop completed); (sl st in next st, sk next st, 3 hdc in next st, sk next st, sl st in next st) 3 times; sk each of next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk each of next 2 sts (Large scallop completed); (sl st in next st, sk next st, 3 hdc in next st, sk next st, sl st in next st) 4 times. Fasten off.
Using needle secure 1st and last crochet sts to top loop of earring hoop and weave in ends on Wrong Side.
Bead Elements for the Crochet Earrings:
There are 2 ways you can add the bead elements to the earrings – Read over the 2 options below and look at the photos so you can decide which method works best for your project and supplies:
Head Pin Method:
This method works well for beads that have a hole going down through the center from top to bottom

Thread your beads onto the headpin making sure the beads are hanging in the correct direction – the open end of the headpin will be at the top and attached to the center of the earring loop

Using pliers grasp the headpin where beads end and bend wire into a 90 degree angle

Grasp this end of the wire with the pliers and bend wire over the wire tip to create a loop
Trim off excess headpin wire

Open loop with pliers and hook onto inside earring hoop loop
Close loop with pliers
Thread Method:
This method works well for teardrop beads that have a hole going across the top of the bead

Using beading needle pass thread through bead hole until bead is resting in center of thread length
Bring both ends of thread together and pass through eye of needle
Now thread remaining beads on both ends of the thread
Using both ends of thread, tie a double knot onto earring hoop loop and weave in thread ends on Wrong Side of crochet section
Finishing:

With pliers open loop at bottom of ear wire and hook onto top loop of earring hoop
Close loop with pliers making sure Right Side of earring is facing front

And that’s all there is to making the Quick & Elegant Crochet Earrings!
I love how you can easily use any combination of beads you have in your stash or that you find at your local craft store. I was able to make one pair of these earrings in less than 30 minutes – that’s fast! I think these would make great teacher or co-worker gifts – take note of what they have been wearing and make a pair to match one of their outfits🙂.
Remember, you can get an instant downloadable PDF of this pattern in my Etsy Shop here.

SHANNON, DO YOU HAVE A VIDEO SHOWING HOW TO CROCHET AROUND THE TEARDROP WIRE? I’M STRUGGLING WITH HOW TO JUST BEGIN ON THE WIRE AND HOW TO HOLD MY THREAD. GUESS I’M A VISUAL LEARNER. IT WOULD HELP, EVEN IF IT IS ON ANOTHER PATTERN THAT HAS A VIDEO WITH IT. I WOULD PURCHASE ANOTHER OF YOUR PATTERNS IF IT HAS A VIDEO TO TEACH ME AS I GO. THANK YOU.
