Christmas Cabled Scarf
Have you tried crochet cables? I had never heard of them until about 15 years ago and have been intrigued by them ever since.
Most crochet cable stitches use post stitches to create the look of stitches passing over and under each other. A post stitch is when you work around the post (or stem) of a stitch (instead of working into the loops on top) – this creates texture because now your stitches pop-out in front (or behind) giving a unique look to the fabric of your project.
When you combine the post stitches with basic stitches and incorporate various crossings, you can get some great results.
This pattern is now available in my Etsy Shop here.

This scarf uses a very simple cable stitch pattern that has rows of plain single crochet in between each cable row. So, every time you work on a ‘cable row’ the Right Side of the project is facing you making it easier to crochet.
I tried something new with this scarf project by adding a few top-stitch (or surface slip stitch) details with a contrasting color to really make the twists and turns of the cables stand out.
Would you add the surface slip stitching or leave it plain?

The large-print instructions include explanations for how to work each post stitch (there are only 2 kinds you use for this). Also, each step is printed on a different line so it’s easier to keep track of where you are in the pattern and each row.
Christmas or Any Time of Winter
The original colors of this scarf were inspired by Christmas – I love deep reds and metallic yarn (especially silver). But you can make this scarf in any color combination!
It would make a great gift that can be worn and enjoyed all winter long.
