I love to create decorations for our home using crochet and other craft supplies. Having a variety of these crocheted wall hangings around our home makes me smile throughout my day. I also love beautiful edgings and thought it would be fun to take a piece of the oversized edging from the Colorida Hammock Blanket project (a FREE pattern found here on our blog) and turn it into this quick and unique home decor item.

I love how this project turned out! As you might be able to tell, the “stick” the project hangs from is actually a piece of driftwood from one of our local lakes. In fact, you can watch a fun video here of my daughters and I creating this decoration together and see some pretty views of the lake.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Measurements: 10″ (long) x 6″ (wide)

Supplies:

Yarn: Size 3 Cotton (Sinfonia by Omega) – 5- 6 colors (small amount of each)

Colors in first photo: (The color names are in Spanish on the yarn labels so I will call them what the colors look like to me along with the official color number from www.creativeyarnsource.com)

Bone – 808; Light Blue – 831; Dark Blue – 833; Green -840; Hot Pink – 825

Hook: F/5/3.75mm

12” dowel or piece of driftwood or stick

Yarn needle

Special Stitches and Abbreviations:

Trtr (treble treble) = YO 4 times, insert hook into st; YO, draw up a loop; (YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) 5 times

Dtr2tog (Double treble 2 together) =[YO 3 times, insert hook into next st; YO, draw up a loop; (YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) 3 times;] 2 times; YO, pull through all 3 loops on hook

Pom-pom st = (YO, insert hook into 3^rd ch from hook, YO, pull up a lp about ½” long) 5 times; YO, pull through all 11 lps on hook, ch 1, fold loops in half toward the back, sl st around ch-length at the base of the pom-pom

Instructions:

Row 1: With Bone (sc around stick/dowel; ch 5) 7 times; sc around stick/dowel; Fasten off. (7 ch-5 sps)

Row 2: With Light Blue sc in 1^st ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp; 12 tr tr in next ch-5 sp, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc in last ch-5 sp. Fasten off.

Row 3: With Dark Blue sc in 1^st ch-5 sp of Row 1, ch 5, sc in 1^st ch-5 sp of Row 2, ch 4, sk next ch-2 sp; (dtr2tog in next 2 trtr, ch 5) 5 times, dtr2tog in last 2 trtr, ch 4, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-5 sp (last ch-5 sp of Row 2), ch 5, sc in last ch-5 sp of Row 1. Fasten off.

Row 4:  With Green sc in 1^st sc of Row 1, ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 4, sk next ch-4 sp; (3 tr, ch 6, 3 tr) in each of next 5 ch-5 sps; ch 4, sk next ch-4 sp, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc in last sc of Row 1. Fasten off.

Row 5:  With Bone and working outside of 1^st st made around stick/dowel, sc around stick/dowel; 4 hdc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, 4 hdc in next ch-4 sp; (4 hdc, ch 3, 4 hdc) in each of next 5 ch-6 sps; 4 hdc in next ch-4 sp, ch 3, 4 hdc in last ch-5 sp, sc around stick/dowel (outside of last st made around stick/dowel). Fasten off.

Row 6:  With Pink and working outside of st just made around stick/dowel (in Row 5), sc around stick; ch 3, Pom-pom st, ch 6, sc in next ch-3 sp,(ch 9, Pom-pom st, ch 6, sc in next ch-3 sp) 6 times; ch 9, Pom-pom st, sc around stick/dowel. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Tie a length of yarn on both ends of stick/dowel and weave in all ends with yarn needle

Lightly steam block project and let dry completely

(Steam block = Lay project on clean towel and hold hot iron about 2” above project while pushing button so steam puffs out; Do for 5 to 10 seconds;

Once project cools down, stretch all stitches and chain spaces out with fingers and pin in place; Let dry completely)

And there you have it – the Colorida Wall Hanging!
