This baby blanket has a great texture that is easy to create with just a few basic stitches. So, this means that this project is perfect for beginners and experienced crocheters. Check out the video tutorial below to help you create the stitches and have success!
I love how the stitches create rows of little soft “bubbles” and the gradual color changes of Red Heart’s Ombre Super Saver yarn in Violet add even more interest and charm. Have you seen this yarn? It comes in a variety of great colors. But, of course, you don’t have to use this exact yarn – any worsted weight acrylic yarn (medium weight) would work well and you could even create your own color changes by using yarn from your stash.
Skill Level: Easy
Measurements: 36″ x 36″
Red Heart Super Saver Ombre – 2 skeins – Violet
J/10/6mm crochet hook
Stitch pattern is created with a 2-row repeat
“Bubbles” are created on back side of every other row which is the Right Side of project; “Bubble” = (dc, sl st)
Special Stitches and Abbreviations:
Sl st (slip stitch) = Insert hook into st, YO, pull through stitch and loop on hook
Dc (double crochet) = YO, insert hook into st, YO, draw up a loop, (YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) twice
Hdc (half double crochet) = YO, insert hook into st, YO, draw up a loop, YO, pull through all 3 loops on hook
Back Loop Only = insert hook into back loop of each stitch
Row 1(Right Side): Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (111 hdc)
Row 2 (Wrong Side): Ch 1, sl st in 1st st; (dc in next ch, sl st in next ch) across. Turn. (55 “Bubbles”)
Row 3 (Right Side): Ch 2, working in Back Loops Only, hdc in each st across. Turn.
**Tip: Because every row starts AND ends with a sl st, it can be easy to accidentally leave off stitches. So, I recommend that you count all your bubbles each Row 2 repeat before you start the next row. You should have 55 bubbles across every other row. Keeping track of this number will help you to have even edges**
Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until piece measures 36” ending with Wrong Side facing (Row 2 repeat). Fasten off.
With Wrong Side facing join with sl st in first st on other side of starting ch at base of Row 1; (dc in next st, sl st in next st) across. Fasten off.
And now your Ombre Bubble Baby Blanket is complete! Please send along a photo of your project – we love to see what you create.
