Celtic Shamrock Shawl Pin & Spring Scallop Shawlette

I have designed several shawls but wanted to try something new – a shawlette. A shawlette is basically a mini-shawl. I love how quickly it worked up and how easy it is to wear. I used a Super Fine (1) yarn that is similar to sock yarn (which would also work) and I love how the Super Fine yarn shows off the pretty stitch pattern.

Then in January my sister, Alice of Geekamuffins, suggested we do a fun collaboration for St. Patrick’s Day – she bakes delicious (and beautiful) cupcakes and cookies. You can check out her cupcake art on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube. She challenged me to come up with a new Celtic Knot design that she could replicate with a cookie and/or cupcake.

I decided to make a shawl pin of a Shamrock (Celtic Knot-style) to go with my new shawlette project. I love how it turned out!

Here is a Youtube video of my sister and I ‘brain’ storming about our projects – you’ll see in the video that we often laugh when we are together – there’s nothing like a sister-connection. 🙂

UPDATE: Here are the finished products side-by-side! Check out Alice’s other video – Part 2 (here) of how she drew the Celtic Knot design on her shamrock cookies.

Both of these patterns (the shawlette & pin) are available now in my Etsy Shop here. Both patterns have detailed instructions to help you be successful in making these projects. The Celtic Shamrock Shawl Pin is a great beginner project because it uses very simple stitches and basic Celtic Knot weaving techniques.

One of the things I love about the shawlette is that you can wear it any time of year in a variety of ways. It is lightweight and stays put with the Celtic Shamrock Shawl Pin.

Check back here soon to see Geekamuffin’s final product – Celtic Knots on Shamrock cookies and cupcakes!
