I love hearts – Their simple and internationally recognizable shape is a classic sign of love and care. I enjoy perusing Pinterest to see all of the different ways you can create the heart shape using a wide variety of mediums – paper, paint, mosaics, embroidery, natural items, clouds, food and, of course, crochet!
I have designed several crochet projects with hearts so I decided to put together this list for you in honor of the upcoming Valentine’s Day (which I like to think of as not just a holiday for lovers, but also a perfect time to let others know you care about them). And what a great way to show you care by making and giving one of these heart projects below! Some are brand new, others are free and some include a Celtic Knot . . .
(Just click on the title or photo to be taken to where you can find or purchase the pattern)
This one you’ll find in the February issue of the digital crochet magazine “I Like Crochet” – It’s a fun twist on the classic Granny square with some creative color changes. I used the super soft and snuggly Bernat Blanket yarn in some pretty blues.
This cute little wristlet is also in the Feb. issue of “I Like Crochet”. (The neat thing about I Like Crochet is that once you subscribe, you get ALL of their patterns that have been published so far – that’s over 500! – and they are accessible immediately via your laptop, phone or tablet!) I enjoyed working with these colors and creating this new Celtic Knot heart design in the Nazli Gelin Garden 3 yarn – it’s 100% Egyptian Cotton – very soft and comes in many beautiful colors.
This knot design is even simpler than the one above and it’s FREE! All you have to do is enter your email address in the box on the right (to receive our free newsletter) and you will automatically receive this pattern into your inbox.
This heart works up very quickly and uses Omega’s Hilaza Size 3 Cotton Crochet Thread – It first appeared in the February 2016 issue of Crochet World but is now available as an individual pattern here.
5. Love You Teddy –
Here is another Granny-square-inspired-heart project. If you look closely you can see that his paws are also made in the Granny-square style. This pattern is now available here.
This heart design was created in honor of National Crochet Month (which is coming up in March – yay!) and is available for FREE in my Ravelry store here. The pattern is for a key ring or zipper pull but it can easily be used as an applique on any garment or as a pendant for a necklace.
As you may remember, I love to crochet jewelry and this necklace I created for Red Heart’s European website. Don’t worry – even if you don’t live in Europe, you can still access this FREE pattern here. It is a little more complicated than the other hearts listed so you may want to try those first.
I have more crochet heart patterns in the works and hope to make them available soon. Please add a comment below if you try one of these or send along a photo of your completed project – I love to see what you make!
PS – Here is a quick image for your Pinterest boards so you don’t forget all that’s on this list!
