Crochet Heart Patterns
I love hearts – Their simple and internationally recognizable shape is a classic sign of love and care. I enjoy perusing Pinterest to see all of the different ways you can create the heart shape using a wide variety of mediums – paper, paint, mosaics, embroidery, natural items, clouds, food and, of course, crochet! This round-up of 7 crochet heart patterns shows how the heart shape can be used in a variety of projects.
Crochet Hearts for Valentine’s Day
I have designed several crochet projects with hearts so I decided to put together this list for you in honor of the upcoming Valentine’s Day (which I like to think of as not just a holiday for lovers, but also a perfect time to let others know you care about them). And what a great way to show you care by making and giving one of these crochet heart projects below! Some are brand new, others are free and some include a Celtic Knot . . .
(Just click on the title or photo to be taken to where you can find or purchase the pattern)
1. Heart Warming Blanket –
This crochet heart pattern you’ll find in an issue of the digital crochet magazine “I Like Crochet” – (The neat thing about I Like Crochet is that once you subscribe, you get ALL of their patterns that have been published so far – that’s over 500! – and they are accessible immediately via your laptop, phone or tablet!) It’s a fun twist on the classic Granny square with some creative color changes. I used the super soft and snuggly Bernat Blanket yarn in some pretty blues.
2. Love Me Knot Wristlet –
This cute little wristlet is available in my Etsy shop here. I enjoyed working with these colors and creating this Celtic Knot heart design in Size 3 cotton crochet thread. This crochet heart pattern uses all basic stitches and a little sewing to attach the zipper closure.
3. Celtic Knot Heart –
This knot design is even simpler than the one above and it’s FREE right here! It is one of my first Celtic Knot designs I created and is still one of my most popular. The only stitches used in this crochet heart project are the single crochet and slip stitch. Subscribers to our newsletter get access to the Celtic Knot diagram for FREE as a quick printable/download from our Resource Library. This heart project is also used in the Celtic Heart Garland which is another FREE pattern found here.

4. Love to Read Bookmark –
This heart works up very quickly and uses Size 10 Cotton Crochet Thread – It first appeared in the February 2016 issue of Crochet World and can be purchased as an instant digital download here. This is one of my most favorite crochet heart projects I have designed. I love how it is practical, too.
5. Love You Teddy –
Here is another Granny-square-inspired-heart project (that is also in the Feb. 2016 issue of Crochet World). If you look closely you can see that his paws are also made in the Granny-square style. Did you know that many crochet heart patterns are started with a square? That’s how I made the heart on this Teddy but you could just make the center square and turn it into something else! This pattern is now available here.
6. Celtic Knot Key Fob –
This heart design was created in honor of National Crochet Month several years ago and is available for FREE on the blog here. The pattern is for a key ring or zipper pull but it can easily be used as an applique on any garment or as a pendant for a necklace. I love how this crochet heart project is 2 hearts intertwined. Recently I was at an Irish dance competition with my daughter and I spotted a dancer (that I didn’t know) with this project attached to the zipper pull of her dance bag! I was thrilled to see my project out in public. Do you know someone who would like to have this on their bag because they love Ireland or Irish dance?
7. Celtic Heart Necklace –
As you may remember, I love to crochet jewelry and this necklace I created for Red Heart’s European website. Unfortunately, now the pattern is no longer available. 😓 But I have designed several crochet heart necklaces in the past several years and you can see several of them in my Etsy Shop here. If you are looking for a FREE pattern, you can find the Easy Celtic Heart Necklace pattern and video tutorial on this blog post here.
I have more crochet heart patterns in the works and hope to make them available soon. Please add a comment below if you try one of these or send along a photo of your completed project – I love to see what you make!
PS – Here is a quick image for your Pinterest boards so you don’t forget all that’s on this list!
