Here is my last quick cozy idea for you this week. This is a great project for beginners because it uses only the single crochet stitch but even if you are an experienced crocheter, you will find this a perfect project for a very quick last minute gift. Have any pretty buttons or large pendant-like beads in your craft stash? They would work for the center decorative element.
Btw, all week I have been recommending this yarn – Sinfonia by Omega:
It is one of my most favorite yarns! It is a Size 3 weight with a wonderful sheen. It is 100% cotton and spun in such a way that it never splits while you work with it. Sinfonia shows off your stitches well and comes in a wide variety of vibrant colors. Click on the name of the yarn below to purchase.
**UPDATE: Here is a pretty Christmas version of this project –
Click here (or on the image) to see how to make this version! **
F/5/3.75 mm Hook
2 hair elastics
2 buttons with 2 or 4 holes each
Sparkly button – I found mine in the jewelry section of Michael’s
Helpful Info and Tips:
Cozy is worked back and forth in rows – sideways
Measurements: 10” x 2 ¾”
Back bar of chain – This is a special bump in the back of the chain (as shown in the photos below) that creates a nice edging on the opposite side that looks like the top of a row of sc
Here you can see some sc’s completed in the back bar with a curvy arrow showing where to insert your hook for the next sc
Back loop of sc – Usually when you start a sc stitch, you insert your hook under both loops that are along the top of the row of stitches; To give this cozy its nice texture you simply insert your hook only under the back loop (the loop that is farthest from you) of each sc as shown by the white arrows in the photo below
Row 1 (Right Side): Working in the back bar of the chain, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (15 sc) Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, working in the back loop only, sc in each st across. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until measures desired length
The cozy shown in the photos is a total of 46 rows.
Using photo as a guide sew elastics to wrong side of cozy with sewing needle and thread; You may want to sew a small circle of felt over the top of the raw edges of each elastic
Sew buttons to opposite side of cozy on the right side of project – I used buttons that have a shank but they don’t work as well as flat buttons with 2 or 4 holes in them
Sew decorative piece to center using matching yarn or sewing thread and needle
Wasn’t that quick and easy? I think even if you are a beginner, you can get great results with this project and have a really nice gift to give someone.
Merry Christmas and Happy Crocheting!
